Last Saturday, Elijah Oscar turned one and we had a great party for him. I was all over pinterest to get fantastic DIY ideas, and may have went a little overboard. After two months of planning, I am glad that it turned out so cute. (click on the thumbnails to view the pictures larger.)
- I created this banner out of scrapbook paper and ribbon.
- I modge-podged scrapbook paper to cardboard letters.
- The fireplace in the family room, with his one year pictures on photo stream.
- I had fun with all the details!
- I covered a shoe box lid with chevron duct tape from the dollar bin at Target.
- This Mickey cake was made by an awesome woman from our church. I am so happy with how it turned out.
- We love candy in our house, so I got a variety of red, yellow, and black candies from the bulk food store and had them in glass containers throughout the house.
- I used streamers as a backdrop behind the cake table. (I also didn’t want the subway art with different beer kinds directly behind the cake.)
- I had intended to make a Mickey wreath at Christmas, but since that never happened I made this for his party. We hung it over the stairs.
- With the help of my friend Abbey and her cricut, I made this banner. Its good to have friends who are craftier than you!
- I wanted a cute “I am 1” banner on his high chair for the cake smash, but it ended up being a better idea in my head…Elijah just wanted to grab it, and it got in the way for pictures. Oh well.
- We took monthly pictures in the same arm chair every month. I will probably stick these in a small scrapbook now.
- This Mickey “garland” was a last minute creation. I thought we needed “more Mickey.”
- We set up the bar for the buffet. It was cuter before all the food was set out.
- RJ even decorated his beer tap for the party.
- I made loot bags for Elijah’s friends.
- Eli’s smash cake was the Mickey ear topper from the larger cake. Eli’s friend Addison wanted to help him eat it.
- Since the ears were frosted in fondant, it was significantly less messy than I anticipated.
- RJ and I wanted to get this Mickey chair for him since we saw it in the fall. Elijah sat in it for a couple presents before he had to get down on the floor for the action.
- The tie was an iron-on I ordered from etsy. (http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheCutiePieCompany) and then my mom stitched it onto a Carters bodysuit for the monkey.
I wish we had taken more pictures of the actual party. We didn’t get any pictures of the guests or the present opening. I guess we were a little too busy.
